Director of Training, Lung Tumor Franchise, Global

As a Director, Lung Tumor Franchise Training, Global, you will play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. In the Global Oncology Business Unit (GOBU); Commercial is the ‘face’ of AstraZeneca to our many healthcare clients. They represent many of the most well-recognized and respected products in the industry and build positive relationships with healthcare professionals.
What you will do:
Provide oversight, strategic direction, and leadership of the training program supporting (GOBU) - Lung franchise to meet the needs across the US and Global markets. Through the efforts of his/her team members, the Director is encouraged to develop a well-rounded training program that includes clinical acumen, sales skill expertise, intuition for business, and other skills and capabilities required for success across our customer-facing teams. The incumbent will work with sales, brand, medical, and other cross-functional leaders in the US, ex-US, and across the Alliance to create learning and capability development strategies and ensures alignment with business unit priorities to program objectives. This position is also responsible for collaborating with markets outside the US to ensure access to training resources to meet their needs in both the pre-and post-launch environments.
This role is campus based at either our site in Gaithersburg, MD, headquarters for our associates. We expect a minimum average of 3 days per week on-site.
Overview:
- Works directly with internal stakeholders, training managers, US, and Global leads to understand the current and future learning needs of the business.
- Responsible for crafting the annual learning plan that aligns with the BSP and ensures the vital resources and supports are available to enable team to design, develop, and prioritize high-quality impactful learning innovations and experiences.
- Anticipates market changes and ensures that the annual plan is revised, and training programs are built to proactively address those changes.
- Able to successfully collaborate across alliance teams to ensure streamlined planning, innovation, and execution of critical training programs to support the brand.
- Establishes strong cross-functional relationships across the product, marketing, and existing internal training teams execute a scalable global training program that highlights the best of L&CD for customer-facing teams.
- Owns the identification, deployment, and promotion innovative practices across the department, including product or indication launches.
- Leads teams to evaluate program metrics as a means of determining training impact in areas for growth and success.
- Leads capability development and career progression of the Lung Franchise learning team to ensure they’re reaching their greatest potential. Builds a positive work environment that provides the opportunity to learn, grow, challenge, and achieve.
- Finds opportunities to collaborate across the teams to create cost savings collaboration and to avoid duplication of efforts. Effectively engages as a member of the L&CD Leadership Team.
- Consultative abilities: identifying internal client needs and making appropriate recommendations for the most effective L&D solutions
- Negotiation abilities: demonstrated experience working with leadership across functions to identify shared areas of need and gain consensus on forward strategies that will deliver desired results
- Talent selection and coaching team members leading to success in the role, growth in their capabilities, and promotion of their wellbeing
Minimum Requirement
- Bachelor's Degree in related field
- 10+ years of a blend of pharmaceutical/biotech/oncology experience required
- 3+ years of management experience required
- Demonstrated vision around innovation in learning and priorities needed for successful commercial learning and selling skills programs
- Outstanding collaboration and stakeholder communication skills required
Desirable for the role:
- Advanced degree in a related field
- Global marketing experience is highly preferred
- Experience with leading co-promotion or Alliance relationships preferred
- 5+ years of Oncology experience with a therapeutic area focus preferred
- 3+ years of Training Experience or another specialized role preferred
- Multi-product or multi-indication sales abilities; ability to verbalize what good looks like in specialty sales models to include sophisticated account pre-call analysis
- Technical breadth across multiple disease areas; ability to demonstrate aptitude for continued knowledge development
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills to author persuasive communications
- Understanding of omnichannel capabilities and how they impact both sales and marketing in the execution of a customer-centric approach
- Experience managing vendor partner relationships and leading that partnerships to ensure innovative assets are created
