Asa Bioinformatics ScientistinGaithersburg, MD,you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. You will be a part of the Microbial Sciences group, where you will study the microbiome in drug development utilizing various molecular tools. The position offers a unique opportunity for a talented individual to work in a dynamic and innovative environment. S/he will not only interact with highly accomplished scientists in the Microbial Sciences group but will also be collaborating with translational and clinical scientists in other therapeutic areas to develop his/her career at the interface of basic research and drug discovery.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Scientist will use next generation sequencing or deep sequencing technologies to examine mucosal microbiota in animal and human samples to understand microbiome changes during disease progression and from drug treatment intervention. The candidate is expected to have a strong analytical ability and may conduct experiments in the wet lab.
Education: PhD degree (0-3 years of academic/industrial experience after post doc) with strong background in bioinformatics, statistics or related discipline.
- Extensive experience analyzing microbiome-based sequencing data from preclinical and clinical samples.
- Experience conducting statistical analyses to interpret experimental results and design appropriately powered preclinical studies a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and conduct high-level novel research projects with a strong track record of developing creative solutions to complex problems.
- Must be motivated and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively with experience leading one or more scientists.
- The applicant must have strong written and verbal communication skills with a strong publication record.
- Multi-omic analysis and pipeline development experience is a plus.
Skilled at developing bioinformatics pipelines to analyze 16s rRNA, ITS, metagenomic whole genome and virome sequence data from microbiome samples.
