The Pediatric Oncology Project Manager in the GPPM organization is responsible for providing project management support to the global, cross-functional Pediatric Oncology Working Group (PoWG) which is aligned with the AZ Pediatric Working Group (PWG), establishing plans and objectives; handling global deliverables for the group each year; running global cross-functional meetings and implementing the pediatric oncology strategy. The individual will have a working knowledge of project management methodologies, tools and templates and will ensure that business requirements are effectively collected.
This position plays a highly transparent, critical role in supporting project teams in both early and late oncology to deliver successful pediatric strategies as part of the drug development process and find opportunities that could benefit pediatric patients.
Responsibilities
Cross-functional Team Leadership and Delivery
Drives delivery of objectives for the PoWG including:
Coordinating and delivering pediatric oncology external steering committee meetings, typically 4 meetings per year;
Setting up strategic alliances between AZ and external Pediatric expert groups to enable delivery of pediatric strategies from projects in early and late phase oncology;
Developing recommendations for including adolescents and young adults in clinical trials;
implementing a MoA-based approach to Pediatric development across the early and late oncology portfolio;
Connecting with early and late project teams to understand their needs for input into Pediatric strategies
Plans meetings, provides minutes and agendas for Pediatric Oncology Working Group;
Provides ad-hoc support to PWG, refreshing communication strategies, information flow and use of information sharing tools;
Organizes key external meetings and identifies conferences relevant to the Pediatric Oncology strategy;
Develops material to enable efficient communication of Pediatric oncology strategy and associated key messages.
Accountable for driving an effective, efficient team environment and helps the team leader to build a cohesive, hard-working team.
Governance and Investment Decisions
Facilitates PoWG towards effective governance interactions to achieve approval of pediatric oncology strategy and plans
Facilitates support to early and late project teams for investment decisions involving pediatric oncology strategies and plans, in particular through DRC process
Planning, Monitoring and Delivery
Ensures that overall team deliverables, budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set, governance approved and attained,
Manages communication to business stakeholders and ensures tracking of deliverables on time and to budget.
Identifies and manages risks to implementation of a Pediatric Oncology strategy.
Entrepreneurship
Seeks opportunities to drive positive change and remove barriers within and outside the team.
Champions company best practices.
Uses business knowledge to drive cross functional and cross-project learning.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical drug development subject, or requisite drug development experience
3+ years of experience supporting cross-functional drug development teams or leading sub-teams
Project Management experience with successful track record of delivering projects within agreed time, quality and cost
Ability to manage high performing teams, and establishing effective team operations
Experience with project management tools and processes
Ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders
Previous accountability high quality information on complex drug projects
Strong information management skills including use of modern IM tools such as SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and OneNote
Desirable
Advanced degree in a scientific discipline and / or MBA
In-depth knowledge of drug development process including experience leading cross functional drug development teams
Project Management (PMP) Certification
