As anInstrumentation & Calibration TechnicianIII in Frederick, MD, you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives. The Instrumentation and Calibration Technician will be required to perform routine calibration, preventive maintenance and repairs to instrument systems and components of laboratory equipment, production equipment, central utilities and building management systems.  Troubleshoot problems in the event of instrument failure and be able to recommend parts needed for the effective repair.  Will be required to assist manufacturing and facilities personnel in troubleshooting and diagnostic analysis on process and utility equipment.  The technician will perform troubleshooting and repair efforts to return equipment to normal operation.  

Military Equivalent Work will concentrate on the following areas:  PMEL, TMDE, Avionics Calibration, Nuclear, Metrology and Calibration, NIST or equivalent Technical field.

Additional Job Functions:

  • Use basic hand tools.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments.
  • Read electronic schematics.
  • Must be able to read, write and utilize drawings, mathematics, handbook formulas.
  • Read mechanical schematics and piping diagrams P&ID’s
  • Must be able to work in a clean room environment.
  • Candidate must possess computer skills, be detail oriented and be able to complete any required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Must have ability to communicate both orally and written in a clear & concise manner. 
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley (AB) process control systems (PCS).
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Considerable knowledge of the job.  Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
  • Some knowledge of Instrumentation Buss technologies and protocols, Fieldbuss, Profibuss, DeviceNet, OPC.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Limited supervision.  No instructions needed on routine work, and general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments
  • Errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material, or equipment to resolve.
  • Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations.  Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data on matters of moderate importance to the function of the department or which may be of sensitive nature, requiring some explanation or interpretation.  Frequent contact will include area/equipment managements, to report equipment status and to coordinate maintenance activities. Some contact with senior management.
  • Conduct activities and interactions consistent with Company values and in compliance with the Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards relevant to your role.  Complete all required training on the AZ Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards on time.   Report potential issues of non-compliance.


  • High School Diploma, Technical School or Military training and experience in a relevant field.


  • 5 to 10 years in a technical industry instrumentation calibrations, maintenance and configurations.


  • Preference will be given to biotech/pharmaceutical experience or military calibration experience.
