We are offering a Laboratory Scientist Apprenticeship in Early Stage Formulation Sciences, which is a unique opportunity to learn within a multi-national company gaining useable skills whilst working closely alongside industry specialists and professionals. The workplace experience acquired will ensure you develop the skills to provide good prospects for future scientific positions.
In addition to gaining valuable working experience you'll have the opportunity to study towards professional qualifications dependent on your chosen department whilst earning a competitive salary.
Responsibilities will include;
Work as part of a team to carry out analytical work in own subject area, in order to meet project targets in a timely fashion, assisting in conducting experimental work to characterise and understand the pharmaceutical properties (physicochemical and BioPharma) of drug substances and formulations. Assist in developing formulations and manufacturing batches for discovery, pre-clinical or clinical use as required, as well as helping to develop and validate appropriate test methodology and specifications for these. Accurately record all data generated in course of analyses with a high attention to detail, assesses findings within the immediate context of the work and delivers reports to the required standards, in a clear and concise manner. Assume responsibility for designated routine non-project tasks, as well as the resolution of routine problems. Communicate progress, as well as any issues encountered, to both the immediate peer group and supervisor. Ensure that work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)

Additionally, you’ll be recognised by the relevant professional bodies at Registered Scientist (RSci) level, for which there is a requirement that the scientist will participate in subsequent continuing professional development on completion of the apprenticeship.
The degree apprenticeship combines working, earning a full-time salary, with fully funded part-time university learning (equating to 20% off the job each week). This will give you the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification, just as you would if you went to university full-time, with the advantage of gaining relevant work-life skills and the excitement of helping to develop new medicines whilst taking your first steps towards a rewarding career.
Essential skills/capabilities required:
We would be looking for the following attributes from our successful applicants:
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals who are keen to learn and with a genuine curiosity for the science involved in creating new medicines.
- Able to act independently but also to work and contribute to the team
- Good organisational skills with an excellent attention to detail
- The ability to work on multiple tasks and understanding how to prioritise
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to apply a rational approach to problem solving; making judgements based on sound reasoning, approaching problems in a logical manner
- High numeracy and literacy skills as well as computer literacy
We are looking for candidates with;
- Five GCSEs (or equivalent) grades 9-4 including Maths, English and Science.
- To have achieved or predicted to achieve a minimum of 112 UCAS points on the 2018 tariff from your top 3 A levels (or equivalent).
- To have achieved or predicted to achieve an A Level (or equivalent) in Chemistry or Biology at Grade B or above.

This is a 4-year fixed term contract opportunity based at Granta Park, Cambridge and offering £18,000 starting base salary + 11% benefits fund + bonus.
