Employee Relations Investigation Director (UK)

As the the ER Investigation Director you will work independently ensuring a thorough and fair investigation process in case of claims regarding harassment, bullying, sexual harassment or any claim regarding discrimination. You will ensure legal requirements and compliance obligations are taken into account through the investigation. You will also propose the right disciplinary action in case of substantiated output. Ensuring policies, processes and procedures for use in the location are legally compliant. You will take the lead role on significant claims in country and advise others within Human Resources. You will work closely with Compliance and Legal to ensure good awareness on how to report SH&B cases and how to prevent them and work closely with the Global Director ER to build SH&B capabilities within the business and the HR community.

Typical Accountabilities:

  • Ensure the policies on SH&B for the UK are appropriate, legally compliant and well communicated to the business and to the employees, contractors and a specific training has been provided
  • Ensure the processes and procedures give clarity on how to report the cases, the range of channels available and ensuring privacy and confidentiality of data related to the SH&B cases
  • Handle all misconduct issues in the SH&B/Discrimination area (investigations, recommendations, and execution)
  • Collaborate with Legal Counsel to effectively manage ER issues and minimize risk and exposure to the business
  • Advise and coach leadership regarding complex and sensitive employee relations matters
  • Provide guidance and training to leadership on how to manage misconduct issues through early intervention and appropriate corrective action
  • Work in partnership with Global Director and Employee Relations in UK, US and Sweden  to monitor metrics  and identify problems and solutions in the SH&B area
  • Take a lead role in the partnership with Legal on governmental charges, proceedings, and lawsuits involving employment practice issues within SH&B cases
  • Provide direction and support on employee relations issues to ensure consistency in the application of AstraZeneca policies, procedures and ER best practices on SH&B cases 
  • Proactively provide support to leadership on a variety of employment practices issues so that the escalation of issues can be avoided or minimized
  • Provide support to any employee who requires it on SH&B topics
  • Ensure the development  and delivery of training programs on SH&B to leadership and employees increasing capability to create a respectful workplace that is highly ethical, compliant and consistent with AZ’s values.
  • Enter all SH&B data  into the  Database system chosen in conjunction with Global Compliance for reporting the SH&B cases  
  • Lead special projects and teams in case of specific projects
  • Liaises with the business senior leadership team on SH&B employee relations issues and collaborates with local HR Business Partners and other Centres of Excellence to ensure that programmes adopted have a positive impact on employee relations
  • Provides guidance to HR Business Partners in the investigation and resolution of employee issues
  • Supports senior management in the area of development of positive employee relations in the area of SH&B
  • Monitors SH&B trends and practices through the analysis of external and internal HR metrics
  • Builds SH&B capability within the HR function

Essential requirements:

  • Law degree  or previous experience in Legal or Compliance departments
  • Experience dealing with complex and sensitive claims and ER cases 
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferable
  • Supervisory experience and proven experience driving change is preferable
  • Specific experience on SH&B cases is preferable
