Senior Clinical Data Scientist with R in Centralized Monitoring Team

We are looking for Senior Data Scientists with excellent programming skills in R to join our global Centralized Monitoring (CM) Team. You will join a team of experts who develop and maintain AstraZeneca’s cutting edge Centralized Monitoring System. You will collaborate with other Data Scientist and Risk-Based Quality Management Experts to design and deploy data analytics and visualizations for clinical studies to ensure their quality meets applicable requirements. Whether it is patient retention, quality of endpoints or robustness of safety readouts, we strive to provide study teams with insights to bring breakthrough medicines to patients.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Independently or as part of a team develops CM functionalities of varying complexity. Tasks can involve gathering of requirements, data mapping, programming, testing and documentation

  • May lead delivery of tasks with other CM staff 

  • Responsible for maintenance of data mapping and study specific CM analyses to ensure they continue to operate in line with requirements; acts as a subject matter expect

  • Identifies opportunities to improve deliveries and best practices 

  • Contributes to function by training and mentoring of more junior staff 

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • Has excellent knowledge of and hands-on experience with R programming language 

  • At minimum 5-7 years of experience in applied data science and/or programming from industry or academia

  • Educational degree (BSc/MSc/PhD) in Life Science, Computer Science or Information Science

  • Good communication skills in both written and spoken English 

  • Team player


  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience in:

    • SQL

    • BI software

    • Machine learning

    • Data modelling  

  • Experience in programming, testing and/or applying  data science methods in clinical development setting
