The purpose of this role is to drive the execution of pricing strategy for the entire CVRM portfolio. This includes supporting local teams during launch negotiations and other lifecycle pricing events, ensuring price decisions align with AstraZeneca’s internal governance, and informing financial planning activities as required. The role has a global scope, with a particular focus on key strategic markets.

The Global Pricing Director works closely with the CVRM Access Head to develop the overall price and market access strategy for specific CVRM assets. The Pricing Director also collaborates with market teams to localize strategy and with senior management to ensure their endorsement of price proposals and risk mitigating strategies for specific cases.

The Pricing Director works collaboratively with other members of the GPI team and CVRM access colleagues aligned to the therapeutic area, creating a cohesive team of authorities driving positive pricing outcomes for the brands across the TA.

Accountabilities

  • Partner with price & market access directors in the CVRM franchise to develop price and market access strategy and other strategic options for relevant CVRM assets

  • Lead execution of pricing strategies of launch brands within the CVRM portfolio: establish launch sequence and collaborate with markets in the development of negotiation strategies to optimize pricing and reimbursement. Support MCs in preparing price proposals, pricing submissions, and in local payer negotiations

  • Own the assessment of proposals for price changes of in-market brands and, in collaboration with MCs, develop strategies to limit impact on regional sales and contribution. Prepare recommendations to senior management on price proposals and risk mitigating strategies

  • Support AZ’s commitment to patient access in all geographies through commercially sustainable access initiatives

  • Develop innovative pricing skills in the organization, pilot innovative pricing models, and drive knowledge of this across markets, brands, and regions

  • Ensure an appropriate pricing policy and governance process is in place to ensure pricing strategies are implemented and monitor ongoing compliance

  • Mentor and develop team members as required

  • Liaise with Market Access & Government Affairs teams to build evidence that helps optimize pricing and market access on country and product levels (provide recommendations on optimal reference baskets, cross-country implications of local cost containment measures)

  • Develop, maintain, and operate pricing models (global/regional launch sequence, reference pricing)

Essential Skills/Experience

  • University degree or equivalent experience (economics, finance or health economics, sciences)

  • Pricing and reimbursement regulations and processes in key markets

  • Knowledge of how different factors drive payer and pricing decision making at country level

  • Knowledge of how prices and market access conditions in a market can influence other markets regionally or globally

  • Challenges and future developments of the pricing and reimbursement environment

  • Track record of delivery in the payer area, or in a function either in terms of strategy or in influencing payer decision making

  • Experience in developing launch price & market access strategies, including constructing payer value stories and incorporating these into TPPs and development programs

  • In-depth specialized knowledge of global payer archetypes, pricing and reimbursement regulations and processes in key markets, and anticipated challenges and future developments of the pricing and reimbursement environment

  • Strong understanding of how payer decision-makers influence development strategies

  • Good understanding of emerging innovative value strategies and implementation standard processes

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Postgraduate qualification in business administration, finance or economics

  • Knowledge of the innovative pricing approaches used to optimize price and access

  • Knowledge of the needs and expectations of regional payers, insurers, and customers in key markets

  • Experience in Respiratory & Immunology is desirable

  • Experience working with customers on evidence-based customer solutions e.g., through working with local payers in Europe or commercial customers in the US

  • Experience in a marketing company in a commercial strategy function e.g., managed markets brand director, business development director, head of pricing/access

  • Experience in completing price strategies, developing launch sequences, and negotiation strategies for local payer negotiations

  • Forecasting experience
