Our UK Marketing Company (UKMC) is responsible for the marketing of our medicines in the UK. Here you’ll also find colleagues from AstraZeneca’s corporate functions and our European and International regions’ sales and marketing teams. As a member of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), all of our sales, marketing and communications activities are subject to the ABPI Code of Practice.

It has been agreed that the UKMC head office will move from Luton to Pancras Square, London in early 2022. Our move to Pancras Square offers us the strongest possible platform to transform the lives of patients in the UK, as the country’s leading biopharmaceutical company. The move will bring the UK Marketing Company closer to customers, partners and stakeholders in the UK’s healthcare environment, as well as foster greater collaboration with the wider AZUK footprint.


  • Develop and deliver implementation of Commercial Partnership strategies for following 3rd party segments: Pharmacies and Pharmacy Chains, Dispensing Doctors, National / local tenders when relevant.

  • Lead the Dispensing Doctors detailing teams and act as the driving force behind, the development and implementation of strategic Commercial Plans that maximise contribution across the Cornerstones portfolio.

  • To identify new business opportunities for Pharmacies and Pharmacy Chains (both commercial offerings and services) – to support practice change initiative

  • Develop Business Cases to support commercial proposals: define strategic intent; propose commercial deals to deliver optimal value to the company, implement and deliver monitoring tools for such campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Relationship Management

  • Drive regular contact /engagement with key stakeholder bodies within the Retail Pharmaceutical Industry including NPA, PPA, DDA, and DH.

  • Accountable for management and implementation of commercial offerings (including rebating strategy) with key Payer customers.

  • Develop and manage key commercial relationships across the Retail Pharmacy customer channel

  • Lead on Tendering opportunities in the NHS and be accountable for assessment of all opportunities and delivery where successful tenders are won

  • Lead the UKMC’s Pharmacy strategy and deliver initiatives in the key retail Pharmacy customer chains to drive our brands – focussed primarily on Cornerstones portfolio

  • Designs / negotiation of service offering portfolio with Pharmacies, hospitals and Dispensing doctors, aligned with Brand Strategy.

Commercial Strategy

  • Responsible for development of overall commercial strategy aligned/integrated with brand strategy for all AZ portfolio

  • Support the Commercial Brand Leader in the development of future commercial offerings across all customer channels.

  • Identification, development and negotiation of commercial opportunities with Retail and other 3rd parties

  • Manages and monitors implementation of the Commercial

  • Strategy for each brand across AZ portfolio.

  • Collaborates with modelling analysts teams to identify optimal commercial policy structure to maximize profit.

Lead & Improve Organisation

  • Lead the dispensing doctors team to drive professional and commercial excellence in this area

  • Provide regular communication of best practise and facilitation of knowledge intra & inter department

  • Responsible for the recruitment and retention of high calibre staff

  • Responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of personal development plans to build capabilities

  • Create a team environment that supports innovation, challenges the status quo and provides clear role accountability

System / Compliance Management

  • Accountable for adherence to all FCF controls

  • Accountable for adherence to all AZ policies and procedures, including APBI code; supervises the team to respect same standards.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, we need someone that has the following:


  • Demonstrated degree level ability

  • Significant experience of managing budgets and costs, PnLs

  • Knowledge of Pharmaceutical Regulations

  • Proficient in project management

  • Experience in managing and developing third party commercial relationships

  • Demonstrated track record in account management

  • Commercial negotiations & Supplier Relationship Management

  • Sound leadership and organisational development skills

  • Commercial acumen

  • Strong knowledge of FCF environment and compliance


  • Pharmaceutical Supply Chain

  • Commercial Deals (financial or services)

  • Ability to drive business and analytics to support business cases.

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience

  • Experience of high value, complex service negotiations from either a purchasing or sales back ground

  • Developing & monitoring performance against SLA’s

  • Brand/Product Manager experience
