The Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) team is accountable for all Infrastructure, Security, IT Operations and all End User Services and technologies. This group will ensure that our IT Services are seamless and secure, and that technology is delivered in an efficient, effective, and agile way, with a strong focus on experience.

The Scrum Master of the Technical Delivery and Engineering capabilities role is to be responsible for ensuring the development team lives Agile values and principles. Focus areas are:

  • Ensuring the team is clear of outside influences and external blockers

  • Creating the Agile environment that instils an agile and rapid development mind-set to the developers

  • Ensuring the roadmap and backlog is complete enough to pass through to developers to begin working on

  • Dynamically spotting gaps and helping to fill them to ensure the velocity of the development team doesn’t slow

  • Being the protector and voice of the development team to ensure in retrospectives that all team members views are heard in readiness for the next sprint

  • Actively clearing internal team blockers whether it’s tools/access/processes etc…

  • Working with external teams to ensure infrastructure is delivered on time to start and complete new development activities

The Scrum Master is accountable for ensuring delivery is completed and on-time as per the estimated output from the developers in Sprint Planning. The role must also ensure that delivery occurs with a sense of urgency and prioritisation of response that can be completed within the approved program budget and schedule commitments, whilst continuously assessing risk and balancing the need for flexibility and agility with conformance to standard methods and tools.


  • Follow and adhere to AZ Enterprise Architecture processes and reference architecture standards for tools/frameworks/development activity

  • Strong understanding of business requirements and drivers, with a focus on creating business value

  • Identify performance and application effectiveness issues and propose/work through optimal and cost-effective solutions.

  • Design and operational execution of business continuity and disaster recovery

  • Identify and involve with team in necessary infrastructure maintenance, upgrades and data migration as required to improve upon technical debt.

  • Work with and create good communication lines with the Application Service team to ensure good user experience in the Technical Delivery and Engineering Applications

  • Stakeholder management, including internal ETS stakeholders as well as external consumers/champions of Applications/Platforms in this area

  • Facilitate and manage as Scrum Master for Technical Delivery and Engineering and specifically the Companion Application stack area with ability to traverse various agile frameworks

  • Support the Product Owner, Product Lead and Engineering Team in delivering to the Product Strategies and Business Initiatives to the requirement from our customers

  • Working with the product owner to improve and increase the product backlog and align to business strategies

  • Facilitate Scrum Ceremonies: Sprint planning, Sprint Review and Retrospective and Daily stand-up.

  • Support the development team by ensuring all blockers raised are removed to reach maximum velocity as a development team

  • Alongside the product owner, act as an agile coach and help to mentor and develop the Engineers

  • Act as a safeguard for the Agile Team.

  • Build and maintain delivery metrics to proactively improve and maintain team efficiency.

  • Showcase stakeholder management to support Business Initiatives through delivery from the product teams via Epic/Stories in the Product boards or as a separate project in the business area.

  • Act as a change agent and strong communicator.



  • Degree level education in computer science or similar

  • Significant experience in an Information Services/Information Technology environment with good business acumen

  • Knowledge of working with automated testing and CI/CD tools e.g. JUnit, GIT, Ant, Maven, Jenkins, SonarQube, Docker

  • Extensive experience of working with Agile Development Teams

  • Knowledge of multiple agile frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, Scrumban and SAFe.


  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to operate in a complex, fast moving and ambiguous environment

  • Experience managing and delivering around multiple conflicting priorities

  • Familiarity of working with global stakeholders in a multi-time zone environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong networking and team working skills

  • Ability to work well in and across diverse global teams

  • Ability to intuitively identify and fill gaps of different role types
