Global Medical Affairs (GMA) ensures the best patient outcomes by providing healthcare decision-makers around the world with the evidence and confidence they need on AstraZeneca (AZ) therapies and supports our internal stakeholders with medical insight and expertise. This new role reflects a mindshift in how AZ bridge between Personalized Medicine and Population Health to address Clinical Inertia. As we embark on a new post-COVID era, we need to embrace a data-driven mindset to address clinical inertia within our priority disease areas. Through this digital program we are working with localized and personalized data to engage with our customers for improved patient outcomes.

The ideal candidate for this role will bring a proven track record of delivering value through the leverage of routinely collected data from healthcare settings to provide health analytics and insights in both Public Health, Pharmaceutical Research and Development and Commercial context.

What you'll do:

  • Discovers new use cases for applied data science and machine learning opportunities by exploring diverse datasets, assessing feasibility and designing prototype models
  • Assist in building a capability that becomes a source of sustained competitive advantage for AZ in identifying, acquiring, integrating and mining diverse RWE data from multiple geographic and healthcare system sources
  • Ability to work with global and local IT project to ensure successful development and implementation of all digital solutions
  • Support technical teams provide access to analytical tools and develop visual analytics to enable self-serving applications for end customers
  • Assist in the delivery of analytics and the build of analytics pieces as part of a forward thinking RWE strategy
  • Evaluate and assess strengths and weaknesses of external RWE data sources via interrogation, and potential partners for advancing the data strategy for a given therapeutic area
  • Delivers insights via ad hoc reporting, dashboards, structured analysis or custom apps
  • Translate problems into specific analytical questions and form hypotheses that can be answered with available data using statistical methods or identify additional data needed

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • MSc or PhD statistics, mathematics, informatics, computer science, the physical sciences or related subject
  • Experienced in EMR/Health, pharmacy, CRM and insurance claims databases
  • Proficient in data mining approaches within healthcare settings generating insight from routinely collected healthcare data
  • Expertise in methods development and application using languages such as R/SQL/Hadoop/Python/Juptyer
  • Leader in advanced visualization and visual analytics of routinely collected healthcare data including tools such as PowerBI, MicroStrategy
  • Developing, maintaining and applying ongoing knowledge and awareness in trends, best practice and innovation in ML/AI & data science approaches to business, science and other real-world problems; actively contributing to these innovations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze complex data and develop a range of options/solutions


  • Strong track record of delivering large, cross functional projects
  • Experience working in a global organization and delivering global solutions
  • Ability to handle data from variety sources, formats and structures
  • Demonstrated experience building interactive data visualizations using tools such as PowerBi, R Shiny, Plotly, Dash
  • Ability to plan and manage complex projects
  • Understanding healthcare systems in US, UK and other regions
