The new R&D Oncology organisation brings together early and late oncology teams, from discovery through to late-stage development, with oncology specific Regulatory and Biometrics groups.

Our Discovery Sciences team operates from truly state-of-the-art centres spanning the UK, US and Sweden. You’ll work with some of the most knowledgeable technological experts in the industry, all collaborating on high-profile drug discovery projects.
This is an opportunity for a talented and self-motivated scientist to undertake biophysical and structural studies of macromolecular complexes between BRCA2 and other tumour suppressor proteins. You’ll have access to state-of-the-art cryoEM and biophysics infrastructure with a leading structure and biophysics group and work in close collaboration with Prof Ashok Venkitaraman’s group at the MRC Cancer Unit.
For this role you’ll be expected to:
• Prepare and characterise protein complex samples
• Optimise cryo-EM data collection conditions
• Perform cryo-EM structure determination
• Integrate information from structural & biophysical studies to create structural models
• Present your results at scientific conferences and publish credible papers in peer reviewed journals
Education and Experience required:
• A PhD in Structural Biology or Biochemistry, supported by an understanding of protein structure and biochemistry
• Expertise in protein expression, purification and biochemical characterization and in biophysical and structural techniques
• Experience in integrative structural biology
• Expertise in biophysical techniques for studying protein structure or molecular complexes, such as cryo-EM or X-ray crystallography
• Expertise in assembling/handling/characterizing large protein-protein complexes
• Expertise in non-recombinant protein purification
Skills and Capabilities required:
• Excellent organizational, collaboration and communication skills
• Creativity and a drive for excellence, as demonstrated by a credible history of publication
