ONCOLOGY BUSINESS UNIT

AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing six new cancer medicines to patients between 2013 and 2020. A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through five key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, HER2 and antibody drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

AstraZeneca is seeking a Global Medical Affairs Leader (GMAL) with oncology expertise and a passion for digital innovation to work in the DDR Franchise.  The role is split between leading our global activities to support our Established brands and working with the broader DDR team to help embed a digital first mindset and bring digital innovation to the fore in all we do.    

The role reports to the Global Medical Affairs Head within the DNA Damage Response (DDR) Franchise.

This role will require matrix leadership and broad internal cross-functional collaboration with multiple global medical and development teams, marketing team as well as teams in key affiliates. Based on a scientific understanding of the disease area, unmet medical needs, treatment options and medical issues, you will enable the organization to help develop tailored medical solutions.

As the Established Brands Global Medical Lead you will be accountable for the development and execution of the medical strategic plan for our established brands, with a strong focus on Zoladex and Faslodex, working with key markets and other MALs in related tumour types to maximize the synergies across teams. 

As Digital Innovation Lead for DDR Medical you will work with other MALs in the DDR and other tumour teams as well as the Lynparza global product team and Global Oncology Medical Digital Innovation Team to  help transform the customer experience, whether that is a HCP or a patient.  As the Digital Lead you will work across teams on high priority challenges to ensure digital solutions are being optimally leveraged and executed to ensure DDR Medical Affairs continues to meet the needs of our customers and patients in a transforming healthcare environment

Therefore it is critical that the GMAL, will be a strong integrator, with demonstrated capability to build networks, lead without authority and to bring together cross functional teams to develop and execute  projects delivering end-user focused solutions.  Good project management skills is also a must.

An another important element of this role is therefore to develop strategic and long-term partnerships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

You will also be involved in the coordination of above product medical affairs activities in breast or prostate cancer in collaboration with the other Medical Affairs Leaders across the organization.

Essential Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD)
  • At least 5 years total of pharmaceutical or relevant medical/clinical experience minimum.
  • Medical affairs experience in oncology therapy area, including in-market medical affairs, with regional or global experience also being desirable.
  • Digital Health,  Medical Omnichannel, Content Management experience is desirable, but demonstrated delivery of projects that differentiate the customer experience harnessing digital with a strong strategic focus is critical
  • Proven ability to generate, analyze and interpret clinical trial and published data
  • Track record of successfully developing and executing Scientific Plans both in terms of evidence generation (interventional studies and RWE), scientific communications and external expert engagements
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and products simultaneously to ensure timely, on-target and within budget accomplishment of tasks
  • The candidate is expected to have strong project management skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including development, marketing, and health outcomes.
  • Good communication and presentation skills in English
