The DS&AI team collaborates across R&D to drive innovation through data science and AI. Together we seek to:

  • Improve our understanding of disease and uncovering new targets

  • Transform R&D processes

  • Speed the design and delivery of new medicines for patients

Within DS&AI, the R&D Data Office enables end-to-end data enablement for organizational functions and our three major R&D therapy areas, supporting data science and digital strategies.

You will be a part of the “Scientific Data Strategy & Provisioning” team in Data Office and the accountable senior lead to drive success for a segment of AZ’s Oncology therapy area.

Your mission will be to improve business value derived from data and associated data-led programmes of work.

To achieve this, you will engage as primary Data Office point-of-contact to therapy area partners, exchange information, co-ordinate creation of data strategies and serve as a consultant for data needs.

Day-to-day you will develop and lead all aspects of a portfolio of data provisioning projects and be accountable to ensure that Data Office services provide enablement to achieve priority business goals.

You will use your position to accelerate and enable data-led innovative R&D for Oncology, allowing AstraZeneca to build out new medicines for patients worldwide.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Act as a primary Data Office point-of-contact to the Oncology therapy area, as your key domain, as a partner and champion, acting to understand their research strategies, business goals, or key data needs.

  • Own and drive strategy for enabling success for Oncology R&D activities through use of Data Office services.

  • Promote Data Office services within the designated domain

  • Assess (feasibility, readiness to deliver, etc), advise, guide and support partners how to best access data and information

  • Own and lead a portfolio of prioritized data provisioning projects, including troubleshooting issues

  • Collaborate closely with other members of Data Office and DS&AI teams to ensure the delivery of particularly sophisticated, larger-scoped and high-priority projects

  • Plan and lead two-ways interactions between leadership groups to strengthen relationships, drive and steer collaboration around your domain

  • Provide reports and presentations on your domain area on strategic developments, service offerings, value-realisation, status and utilisation to key partner groups

  • Provide structured information internally to Data Office to enable insights on domain requirements, allowing prioritisation of new or enhanced services.

  • Develop and maintain a cross-functional network and foster collaboration within AstraZeneca, this may extend to collaborators outside of AstraZeneca

  • Contribute to alignment between data needs within your domain and Data Office strategy, identifying and critically assessing must-win and innovation themes.

  • Foster a culture of customer focus and performance

Essential

  • Significant experience working in pharmaceuticals R&D, life sciences or related scientific industry

  • Experience of data leadership position

  • Experience in and knowledge of medical research in Oncology

  • Excellent networking skills, decisiveness, conflict management and negotiation skills as well as analytical thinking.

  • Strategic and conceptual attitude paired with excellent project management skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in cross-functional, international and intercultural working teams

  • Pro-active and able to anticipate to future needs and spot new opportunities

  • Travel – willingness and ability to occasionally travel domestically & internationally

  • Strategic business-analytical skills that enable effective diagnosis and prioritisation of effort in response to key challenges and opportunities

  • Preferably have operated in a business-partnering or consultancy role, preferably in relevant business domain

  • Preferably oversight of project work with accountability for value-delivery

  • Knowledge of data management and data-privacy and legal obligations associated to data sharing desirable.
