Associate Director, Procurement Full Service Outsourcing

Within One Procurement the R&D Procurement group supports the Oncology and Biopharmaceuticals (Respiratory, CVRM and INA) units. These units have responsibility for the value chain from discovery through to late-stage development, enabling rapid acceleration of promising early-stage assets and life-cycle management programs. R&D Procurement supports Oncology and Biopharma by ensuring all sourcing arrangements are successful and aligned to company and area strategies and manages supplier relationships at an operational/strategic level.

You will have accountability for all fully outsourced studies for Oncology/Biopharma Legacy models leading both demand and supply side activities. Managing customer and supplier relationships to implement the category plan and to ensure that the underpinning process improvement and procurement activities deliver the expected business value.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Planning and oversight of clinical study related contracting within one or more therapeutic areas for fully outsourced studies.

  • Supports the Director in strategic relationship management (customer and supplier) - to ensure that Category Strategies are aligned to current and future business needs and that the supply base can support these strategies.

  • Works with relevant Director to ensure implementation of fully integrated and customer-aligned AZ-wide category plans.

  • Works alongside GPS (Global Procurement Services) and SPP (Study Procurement Partners) in advising on decisions necessary to purchase products and services in congruence with organisational objectives

  • Partners with the Study Team/Director planning for the setup of new outsourced studies including contract sign off responsibility

  • Oversight of study related contracting through GPS for fully outsourced studies and accountability for budget and potential negotiations (SOLIS & Legacy)

  • Change order log sign off and escalation point for GPS in case of need for negotiation of added budget items, change order log forecasting and insight on what contract changes are upcoming

  • Spend forecasting based on pipeline, milestone management and escalation point for GPS on fully outsourced related topics

  • Develops, evaluates or manages internal and external relationships with suppliers and other cross-functional teams

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Degree level or equivalent qualifications

  • Good working knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and clinical trials

  • Significant negotiation experience

  • Excellent project management and analytical skills

  • Strong communicator, ability to influence others

  • Comfort with risk and ambiguous situations

Desirable

  • R&D Procurement experience
