About the role

Global Business Service Data Office (GDO) mission is to provide accessible, robust data services within Finance to make it a work class data driven function contributing to AstraZeneca’s ability to deliver life-changing medicines. As an operational arm of GBS Data Office, the Data Management Team (DMT) is responsible for data maintenance in the systems of record within Finance. This covers the creating, amending, and blocking of core master data objects to support our business processes and reporting solution.

As the successful role holder, you will be responsible to lead, motivate and develop members of a transaction team within the wider process team ensuring that the team operates to the highest standards of financial control, compliance, and best practice. It is crucial the role holder ensure quality and accurate delivery of services within agreed key performance indicators (KPIs) and as defined in the Service Level Agreement (SLA), develop knowledge and capability in team members to raise competence to expected levels to meet current and future business needs. The role holder also being expected to chip in technical expertise or driving process improvement initiatives as outlined in team scorecard. This role reports directly to Master Data Manager – Data Management Operations.

Typical Accountabilities

Key responsibilities:

  • Handle performance of the Data Management Team on assigned master data area i.e., vendor, customer, or finance data to achieve efficient processing and effective team working.

  • Supervise daily services delivery including managing team workload and priorities

  • Ensure adequate resource planning to maintain acceptable service levels according to SLA and advance for unusual circumstance which require special handling.

  • Review the KPI metrics related to the function and provide commentaries and root cause analysis where required for further discussion with the Global Data Manager

  • Take the lead in issue resolution on BAU operational matters.

  • Act as customer concern point for any BAU issues / urgent actions.

  • Lead and support in process improvement and productivity initiatives within the team. These include reviewing and signing off DMT process documentation.

  • To lead on sub project groups based on the initiative driven by tower lead.

  • Manage and enabling people learning, development and career progression:

  • Enable new joiners to successfully settle into their new role in their stream.

  • Enable existing team member to be effective and undergo smooth transitioning across changes of process, tools, system, or even new structure of the team.

  • Ensure a high level of understanding of the local business requirements. Implement and operate financial controls and governance to a standard that ensure Sox, Financial Controls Framework and Audit requirements are met.

  • Build and sustain effective relationships with local business to deliver performance and implement standard methodology. Key criteria are the abilities to support the team with business acuity and handle fluctuating volumes during the peak period.

  • Support team for any urgent BAU activities - acting as expert in master data and processes more sophisticated cases and support request resolution.

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • At least 5 years experience in Finance and Accounting and/or IT, include minimum of 2 years experience managing transactional teams, in a performance driven environment.

  • Degree in Finance & Accounting/Commerce or equivalent.

  • Knowledge and experience in SAP or other ERP / Accounting systems and ability to understand master data impacts to projects within the region.

  • Experience and understanding of Vendor, Customer, Finance master data objects.

  • Great communication skill and able to communicate effectively in English.

  • Sound working knowledge in master data set-ups and control.

  • Experience of working in a shared service center across a global /large organization will be an added advantage.

  • Experience with leading operational team.

  • Customer centric mind-set and ability to handle customer queries and requests.
