Join AstraZeneca’s global Medical Excellence & Ethics team in BioPharmaceuticals Medical (BPM) as a Medical Capability Director. BPM ensures the best patient outcomes by providing healthcare decision-makers around the world with the evidence and confidence they need on AstraZeneca (AZ) therapies. Working within Medical Excellence & Ethics, the Medical Capability Director will play a pivotal role in the development of strategically aligned scientific and capability training within an assigned therapeutic area; thus, bringing together the science (the what) and capabilities (the how) to ensure application, adoption and embedment in day-to-day interactions. By identifying key medical training needs and delivering solutions through innovative and engaging strategies, this role will ensure medical colleagues have the expertise to positively influence clinical practice and ensure AstraZeneca’s medicines reach the right patient at the right time.
Typical accountabilities:
With a focus on prioritised disease conditions and medicines, perform robust needs assessments to identify medical training needs aligned to strategy
Develop robust strategic training plans to build capabilities and expertise across a broad range of needs in office and field based medical personnel
Ensure timely implementation of strategic training via a range of delivery methods
Identify and use innovative learning techniques to maximise learning efficiency and effectiveness, using and repurposing other assets when appropriate
Oversee the management and relationship of external vendors and other training providers
Manage budget for the delivery of the training plans
Define clear metrics and measurement plan to assess effectiveness of training
Create a culture that promotes learning across the medical organisation, recognising that this leads to improved performance and ultimately patient benefit
Work with learning platform leads to shape platforms that support the delivery of training to ensure the best user experience to enable sustained behaviour change
Essential Skills/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in science, education, communication or business
A minimum of 5 years of Pharmaceutical experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience in learning and development with direct experience developing and implementing large scale programs
Strong business insight to understand business needs, analyze issues and implement aligned solutions that will cause behaviour change
Solutions oriented with an entrepreneurial spirit to innovate and creatively overcome barriers
Excellent partnership and cross-team collaboration skills with experience successfully influencing and building relationship cross-functionally, cross-culturally, cross-location and cross-brand/TA
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience and confidence presenting ideas and solutions to senior leaders/executives, as well as facilitating learning and development sessions
Ability to be agile and proactive with a ‘can-do’ attitude
Desirable Skills/Experience:
Advanced degree (MBA, PharmD, PhD)
Previous experience in a global or regional role
Previous experience in Field Medical or Field Sales
